The social sports organization Sporter has decided to take over the tradition of Western countries of conducting Christmas races and has also hosted a costume Christmas run in Moldova.
On December 29, 2013, the Great National Assembly Square in Chisinau turned into a fairytale land with various characters. Here was held the first Christmas Marathon. The participants who came without wearing a costume had the opportunity to turn into their favorite character in the Christmas Lab, where the best body art masters were working. The brightly colored crowd, headed by bikers and cyclists, ran the distance of 3 km. Santa Claus, Superman, Zorro, various animals and many other characters caught the attention of passers-by and came into view of mobile phone cameras. Thus, the first Christmas Marathon in Moldova was successful.
On December 21, 2014, the social sports organization Sporter, assisted by the Ministry of Youth and Sports, held the second Christmas Marathon on Stefan cel Mare bd. In total, about 400 people participated in the race.
The 2015 race has gathered 1 000 participants. Dressed as various fairytale characters, all of them ran 3 kilometers and collected gifts throughout the race.
In 2016, the Christmas carnival race was also held on the main street in Chisinau. One thousand runners participated in the event, trying to collect as many gifts as possible – the gifts were offered by partners for the event. At the finish line, the participants received a symbolic medal. Afterwards, the most original three carnival costumes were chosen, and the winners got prizes.
The year 2017 is no exception, and the Christmas Marathon will be held for the fifth time, on December 17, on the main streets of the capital. The start will be given at 12:00, and the participants will have to cover the same distance of 3 km. So get ready for gifts and guaranteed good mood.
